The Classic Pamela Positive: Philanthropy – Start Loving Others Now

While it is commonly accepted, I’m not sure I agree that philanthropy means giving away “money.”

Instead, philanthropy is the love of humanity, of people. And what I cherish about this definition is that it is accessible to anyone, at any time.

We can all be philanthropists. Whether you are getting the dry cleaning, having a conversation with your boss or coworker, or saying a kind hello to a homeless person, you are a philanthropist.

Philanthropy should be, and is, accessible to all.  I love that we can start loving others now!

The Definition of Philanthropy, in Merriam-Webster: 1: goodwill to fellow members of the human race; especially : active effort to promote human welfare 2: an act or gift done or made for humanitarian purposes.

The Classic Pamela Positive: Give A Gift Every Day

Give a gift every day.

Send your friend’s birthday gift early.

See a gift that would be meaningful for someone you care about, and just buy it. Give it to them now.

Take the time to cook a meal for your partner or your roommate.  Take the time to cook a meal for yourself.

Smile at a person walking down the street.

Smile at a homeless person and stop and learn their name. There is the gift of knowing someone. Of acknowledging you care.

Be kind to yourself.

Get in bed early.

Say three gratefuls before you fall asleep.

Say three gratefuls when you wake up.

Believe today is special.

Take time at lunch to be grateful for three more things.

Pay the phone bill for your roommate.

Drop off banana bread for your neighbor.

Give a lot. Expect little.

Smile at yourself in the mirror.

Work hard and attain the gift of devotion to something you believe in.

Work and leave early and give yourself a gentle night off, nurturing yourself.

Stop and look at nature. Any part of nature. The expanse of the sky; drifting clouds; a vibrant flower.

Give yourself the gift of awareness of how precious and beautiful life is every day.

Man Bakes Pies to Heal His Heart

What a lovely example.  I love people who despite any hurt– still rise above, and give.  It’s so beautiful.  What a courageous man.  He bakes pies to heal his heart, after his wife ascended.

——————-

It seems Keller couldn’t possibly have thought up a more beautiful way to honor his late wife than by baking hundreds of pies and selflessly giving them away to those in need. But one of the most touching parts of his tribute actually comes long before the final baked goods are revealed. It happens each time he opens the oven.

Read about 98-year-old Keller here.

As he explained to the station, his wife picked it out when they moved in their Hastings home 62 years ago.

“Everything I do, I do it with love,” he said. “That’s my secret ingredient, is love.”

I Feel Stuck

Today I was speaking with a friend and she said
I feel stuck
And doesn’t that temptation come to us sometimes.
 butterfly-761637_1920
Something in our life can’t move.

In her case, she was working very, very hard for a global Fortune 500 company for 15+ years.  She demonstrated loyalty, excellence in execution, extreme detail and care. Then she made a request to move into another area of the company after years of diligence. The new Business Unit was thrilled. She was thrilled.  A perfect fit!   She could become unstuck!

But the CEO said “No.”  We need you here. You’re staying here.

The good news is she is highly esteemed. The bad news is they just want her doing the same thing. But she wanted to grow in other ways.

When things seem tough. We’re told:

Our job won’t progress. We’re stuck.

Or you can’t find the right roommate. I’m stuck.

You haven’t been able to get a visa for three years. Our family is stuck!

There are no jobs in your country. Our country has been stuck for generations.

Or maybe you have been seeking family. And it’s just not happening. Lonely -Stuck.  Solo- Stuck.

Those are the times, ironically, when it’s important to give. Yes, that’s right. It’s the time to reach out to someone else, lend a helping hand, offer to help an elderly tribal leader enter the tent, or carry the groceries in for a neighbor out of their car.

It’s one of the most powerful lessons in life: In order to become unstuck yourself, you have to help someone else get unstuck. From generosity flows flow.  A flow of goodness so powerful it will bring positive progress to the, to you and the world.

You can get stuck and absorbed on yourself. Or you can help someone else and unstick them, yourself and the world.

Get Unstuck Today. Give!
