The Encourager, The Realist and The Critic. Which One Are You? Which One Do You Want To Be?

rsz_johnathan-pearson-e1404855791431-1080x675Jonathan Pearson is a millennial determined to leave the world in better shape, and the co-creator of MillenialLeader.com, an online community for young leaders. And here’s what he’s got to say about the people in our lives. Who we are to them, and how we can help. And who they are to us. Read on for a most essential blogpost true to that, below. Thank you, Jonathan!

Jonathan focuses on three types of people: The Encourager, the Realist and the Critic. Which one are you? Which one do you want to be? You will be one, or more, whether you like it or not, as our comments affect people tremendously.  Decide how you will make a difference today, in every conversation.

From his blog post:

The Encourager

The truth is, we all need encouragement in life. We need people to encourage us and make us feel better during tough times. Be sure you are an encourager. Be sure you have some around you.

The Realist

Sometimes, we can be blinded …if all we listen to is the encourager who always commends us and encourages us, we’ll miss the parts…about us that need to grow.  Find people that love you and want what’s best for you but also know how to deliver the truth. Have the realist in your midst at all times. What they say may not always lift you up, but they will have your back.

The Critic

We need those people so that we can see our faults, but also so we can know to react in the face of adversity. We have to be loving people. These “critics” help develop character. Love your critics. Don’t trust them, but don’t shut them out either.

Jonathan, thank you for your wise feedback advice, and your encouragement!

Warmly, Pamela
