Novak Djokovic has been the World’s #1 Tennis player. He’s won 5 Grand Slam Singles Tennis Titles. An honor to his homeland of Serbia, he is the first male tennis champion to win a Major Singles Title.
Yet it wasn’t always that way. In the late 90s, his Serbian homeland was being incessantly bombed. He had every right to cower, and simply survive. To not think of anything else but the next day.
And he did think of the next day: The day he would win Wimbledon. He dreamed of Wimbledon, and Winning It.
School was out.
Instead of goofing off…
and he dreamed…
Again and Again…
So days were on the court and nights in the basement, a bomb shelter.
With time … the bombing stopped.
His skills increased.
He won in Europe, then abroad, then became the #1 Tennis Player in the World.
If something seems to stop you, figure out what you should pay attention to. Should it be noise, the bombing? Or should it be something you can devote yourself to? It can be writing, being kind, learning chess, reading literature, appreciating all the good around us.
And if you want to take it a step further… then you can also bring joy to people’s lives by making them laugh! Check out his hilarious impersonations of two of his fellow tennis colleagues, Sharapova and Nadal:
