Los Angeles uses 2.3 billion plastic bags each year and now they’ve taken action: they’ve banned them.
What a great article in The Christian Science Monitor, which tells the full story. The Los Angeles city council has confirmed that they are banning single use plastic grocery bags. The vote was a resounding yes. LA will become a model for the United States as the largest city to stop the use of plastic bags. They want to reduce the landfill, as well as the garbage that collects in local water channels.
Nearly ten thousand stores will be affected by the initiative. Yet as much effort as it takes, it is for the greater good of our world.
By the way, while it was a controversial vote, the members voted 13 to 1 to ban the bags. Helping to clean up our world is starting to become unanimous!
