You hit the nail on the head with integrity... too often it is just given lip-service, but you see it in almost every organizations core values. Makes me wonder how often integrity is actually "used" in day-to-day business alliances.

Thanks Pamela for a great post. My favorite part was:"You Americans just want to complete things. We want to create and nourish relationships.” Thanks for the reminder about what really matters - not checking the "done" box but the process, the exchange and the relationships.

Mike, we are not perfect social entrepreneurs. All of us struggle, at separate times, with levels of confidence. We have to be both gentle and proactive. We have to pick ourselves up and charge forward. Commit to doing our best. Advance ourselves, and advance our organizations. Care deeply. And, also, rest.

You are doing great. Keep believing.

Mike, you are a remarkable person. Don't stop.

I believe in you!

This is a great post, Pamela, addressing a very important issue! I think just about every startup for-profit or non-profit has faced this challenge. There is definitely a "Tipping Point" at play when it comes to attracting investment. Investment-seeking institutions need to be able to present authority, credibility, and capability to help quell the risk that an investor will take. This can be achieved by establishing partnerships with other organizations, bringing in credible advisors, or building momentum/hype through a base of supporters and advocates. You need a very clear and solid plan of action with numbers to back it up and people that will vouch for you and your ability to accomplish your goals. Trust can be a wary first step for an investor and new venture, but is an absolute necessity in moving forward!

Pamela, thanks for answering both of these questions so quickly. The holiday fundraising post really spoke to me. I'm really learning the importance of long-term relationships that you always speak about.

I think the issue for me was that I haven't been confident enough in myself to visualize the continual success that will get me to the point when the long-term relationship will pay off. Some days I feel so confident and proud and other days I feel anxious and overwhelmed. Fortunately, I'm addressing this mentally and spiritually, as well as practically - structuring Sparkseed to run more efficiently.
